July 15: Bath to Stonehenge

This morning began at a slow pace of packing, eating and saying goodbye. By 10:30 though we were on our way to STONEHENGE! We had been warned that this site is no longer worth the trip since access has been restricted. Amy and I heartily disagree! Continue reading

Part of the Great Britain travel series (Days 1-2Day 3)

Before I get in to today’s journal, I wanted to give some perspective of how far we’ve come.

From our beginning point of Inverness we have now driven approximately 375 miles (this is not taking wrong turns and detours into consideration).

Great Britain 2013: Travelogue Introduction

In February 2012, my BFF since second grade, Amy, asked me to join her on a celebratory trip to Europe. After months of consideration, Clay and I made a budget and I accepted her invitation. Over the next year and a half, Clay dutifully stashed money in an account earmarked for my trip, while Amy and I made plans for tours, lodging and attractions. Continue reading

Reading List

{Part 1: Written in February 2013}

Last week Amy and I booked our accommodations for 10 days in the UK! Now, I realize I must get serious with the reads that need to happen before said trip. Anyone interested in joining me? No. I didn’t think so. But the offer is there if anyone wants to jump in for a book or two with  me between now and July 9. I will have them all read or re-read by then.

New reads:

The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis – I’ve been working on this little essay for oh, about 4 months now. It will be finished by March 8.

Persuasion by Jane Austen – just picked it up fresh from the RSA library last week. I forgot to actually check it out though and had to double back the next day. There wasn’t a line waiting for it…unlike Downton Abbey Season 2 which I snatched out of the return bin when I realized someone had foolishly dropped it there rather than handing it directly to a librarian. So I managed to skip ahead of all of the suckers proper families who wait their turn and promptly returned it to the little red wagon one day week later.

Mansfield Park – ugh. I have tried repeatedly to get into this story line. I’m just not a fan of Fanny. I’m sorry die hard Austenites. I just don’t like her.

Re-reads

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

Pemberely Pride & Prejudice

Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen

Emma by Jane Austen

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen – though in fairness I did just finish it last fall.
